***Wow, it’s been ages since I last wrote a Daughter of Artemis chapter! Recap: Amelia Johnson is Artemis’s daughter, even though Artemis is a maiden goddess, Amelia went to camp, she was lonely and undetermined in the Hermes cabin, Amelia became friends with Bella and Jake, at the end of Part 3 Amelia said that something ruined her life***
So: the beginning of when my life went downhill (but also uphill in a way) was when a familiar-looking auburn-haired girl with a silver bow marched in camp, accompanied with a girl with braided, dark hair, also with a silver bow.
People stopped what they were doing and stared at girls. They ignored everyone and walked directly to the Big House.
‘Who’re they?’ I asked Bella and Jake. We had been sitting outside on a grassy hill, near Thalia’s tree (Bella explained the story about how Luke, son of Hermes, Annabeth, daughter of Athena, and Thalia, daughter of Zeus, had arrived at camp, with a satyr named Grover). ‘I don’t know’ replied Jake. ‘Must be Hunters of Artemis. They both have silver bows, and they have a silver aura. See?’ asked Bella, pointing at the girls, who had just entered the Big House. ‘One of them had a silver circlet braided into the top of her hair, which means she’s lieutenant.’
‘Hunters of Artemis?’ I asked, ignoring the little pang I felt inside me when I heard my mother’s name, also ignoring the feeling that I knew the auburn-haired girl. ‘Artemis’s followers. You have to be a girl, and you get immortality if you join, but you can still die in battle. You have to become a maiden forever; no romantic love’ Bella answered.
A horn sounded throughout Camp Half-Blood. ‘Lunch’ I said. ‘No’ Bella said. ‘Too early for lunch.’ ‘We better get down there. We don’t want to be late’ Jake said. Together, we walked down to the pavilion.
Everyone sat down at their tables. I sat next to Jake. ‘The Hunters’ whispered Jake, pointing at a table that was usually empty. A group of about 20 girls sat there, talking and laughing. I recognised the girl with the silver circlet on her head, and the auburn-haired girl. Mr D stood up, and everyone went quiet.
‘So, hello, brats. As you can see, Artemis, with the Hunters of Artemis, have dropped in.’ Dionysus sat down abruptly. Everyone stared at Mr D as he sat down, and began eating some grapes. Chiron (in full centaur mode) stood up.
‘We would like to welcome Lady Artemis and the Hunters. They have visited, seeking more girls to join the Hunt. As it is a tradition, we shall play Capture the Flag, Lady Artemis and her followers against Camp Half-Blood tonight. This -‘
That’s when I stopped listening. I had been staring at the auburn-haired girl, when she looked right at me with her odd, bright silver eyes. And in that moment, I knew who she was.
Artemis. My mother.
