Lois Lowry is an American author. She has written over 30 children’s books, and has won many awards. She was born on March 20th, 1937, in Honolulu, Hawaii.
When she was young, Lois was quite shy, She loved to read, and when she was about 8, she decided she wanted to be a writer.
Lois’s older sister, Helen, died of cancer, when Lois was 25. This inspired her to write her first book, A Summer to Die, which is about a young girl who loses her older sister
Lois is known best for writing The Giver and Number the Stars
She was inspired to write The Giver, when she had to explain to her father (whose memory was getting worse) about her older sister’s death. She began to think about how it would be easier if she didn’t remember her bad experiences, and decided to write a book about it
