Image from here (this school design is so cool! But I think there needs to be more fences or something).
In school, my class is doing a school design project. We are designing a school (as if we had unlimited money), making it so that everyone feels included and empowered (this isn’t actually going to happen, it’s just a project). One of the main questions was ‘Can school truly be for everyone?’
Everyone went around the school collecting data, interviewing the other kids in the school, asking them questions like ‘What do you like about school, and what don’t you like?’ ‘What is your favourite/least favourite subject in school?’ ‘Is there anything you want added to the school, like swings, or more slides?’
Me and my friends are in a group, and to make everyone feel included and empowered, we decided that we would have classes dedicated to specific subjects (eg. a classroom for maths, or science, or whatever). Year 4s and under would have to do the normal subjects (maths, reading, writing, spelling, etc.), while Year 5s and up get to choose their subjects at the beginning of the year. There would be categories (for example, ‘musical arts’ would be a catergory), and you would have to pick a certain number of subjects under that catergory (for example, you might have to pick 3 musical art subjects. Uunder ‘musical arts’, there would be things like basic singing, orchestra, band, basic guitar, advanced singing, and so on).
If you have any thoughts about what a school should have, please comment and tell me!
